"What, therefore, may seem now to be mere unconnected pieces of tile will someday, when we look back, take form and pattern, and we will realize that God was making a mosaic. For there is in each of our lives this kind of divine design, this pattern, this purpose that is in the process of becoming, which is continually before the Lord but which for us, looking forward, is sometimes perplexing."-Neal A. Maxwell

I love this quote! It comes from this talk which I have come to adore. Both of my roommates (Kristina and Bahaar) gave talks this Sunday and both included an element that I thought was interesting- that we need to have faith in God's timing. Yes, I know I struggle with this massively. So I like that we keep plodding on step by step and that one day we can look back and see how everything that once caused us sorrow and pain led us to the beautiful life. But I also like the idea of finding joy in the journey today. LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL! And we need to remember that even in our off days. Anyways, now off of my philosophical pedestal and onto some more brief updates/pictures:
  • Banana bread/ rain- My home teacher from last Fall/Winter makes THE most amazing banana bread and last Tuesday, I REALLY wanted some. So I coerced him into making some with my roomies and I. We added strawberries and chocolate chips and it was DELICIOUS! It also started raining so we got to dance in the rain. (This may not seem like a big deal but it rarely rains in Provo, so it was exciting.) There was also a really pretty rainbow which just made me really happy!
  • Ice-cream/Matt Damon- Yes all of those do have something in common: my Friday night. So on Friday night, Jessica, Angel, Berg and I were super bored. So we went over to Race,Ray and Ler's (his name is actually Tyler, but he calls me Kels, therefore I had to give him a shortened nickname) apartment to see what they were doing. They weren't home, but the door was unlocked... needless to say we were toliet papering them when Race walked in. Berg BOOKED it out of there as soon as she heard the door and it was one of the funniest things ever. Luckily Race wasn't going to rat us out. Unforunately, it turns out Ray had been in a car outside his apartment THE WHOLE TIME, watching us... So cool beans. That's okay though! Luckily for us, they still wanted to hang out so we went to the Malt Shoppe to get ice cream. Eventually it was decided that we would watch Bourne Identity (which was quite alright with me seeing as Matt looks beautiful in that movie) and I think I only made less than 20 comments about how much I loved him/wanted to kiss him. Definitely commendable.... Anyways, it turned out to be quite the night because Jessica slept over so we stayed up all night talking about boys (what else would we do?!?!)
  • Saturday of Sun- This past Saturday, Jo, Bahaar and I all did Butt Bible Level 3! It was incredible! I love me some workout. Anyways, afterwards Jo and I decided to go to the pool to swim/get tan. Let's be real here, I NEVER tan. But that's okay. After three hours of this, we picked up all of our other roomies and headed to our ward slip 'n' slide. Basically what happens with this is there is a huge hill in Rock Canyon park (located behind the temple and actually is at the base of the mountain where we went bouldering) and the families back there put a black tarp and hose down the hill and off you go. It was super fun and I only freaked out the first time I did it (but let's face reality here, I screamed every time). Race then suggested we go to the pool which everyone did. Everyone was playing games (except me because even though my dad apparently 'taught' me to swim, I actually can't... Love ya dad!) Anyways, I just kind of chilled which is okay because I was pretty sun beat. We then hit up Red Robin where we very much overwhelmed our waiter but it was super fun being around everyone. Race and I talked about our love of Kayne West's "Gold Digger," but we couldn't remember the lyrics, so we went to his apartment and thugged it up. Also, as a side note, I DID get a little tan :) We then watched Bourne Supremacy making Jessica super happy! (She doesn't really like action movies but we made her watch the second one!) She's so cute!
  • Provo Canyon BBQ/Blind Side- Sunday was great because both of my roommates gave excellent talks! They were so great! I also got extended a new calling (which I won't reveal at this time because I haven't been sustained) that I AM SUPER EXCITED ABOUT because I get to work with some of my favorite people. After church, Bryce, Chase (they used to be in our ward) and all of my roomies drove up to Vivian park and had a BBQ. Luckily we brought men because they made us some delicious burgers to add to Berg's delicious peanut butter cookies. (I may or may not have had more than 3 cookies...). We also went in the river even though it was freezing. Afterwards, we headed out to what I am just now going to refer to as our "Daily Hang Out With the Ward" activity which was watching the Blind Side. There was a zillion people there though so it was pretty hot and made me claustrophobic. On the plus side, I love that movie!
  • FHE-Paint Twister/game night. Last name my FHE mom, who happens to be my roomie Kristina, planned a paint Twister night which was super fun but also super messy. Like most of our nights, we ended up having a dance party to the likes of M.I.A. and One Direction (so classy, I know) which promptly ended when I screamed "Take me on a date!" out the window and realized we knew the guys we were screaming too. *side note here* I really haven't done anything THAT embarassing this week and it's kind of shocking. Anyways,we ended the night with a crazy game night involving Signs and music. FUN! :)
  • President Uch- I know you are thinking, "Seriously Kelsey, how many times are you going to mention this man?" To answer your question, pretty much every post. Today I had this dream where I met Uchtdorf on campus and totally started crying when he hugged me. Yeah, most people, including my mother, thinks this is highly weird because I love him so much. So I decided to explain WHY I love him so much so less people think this is creepy. Below is a list of reasons why I love him:
    • I am a words of affirmation girl, meaning that I LOVE researching quotes and talks to help buoy my spirits. Uchtdorf speaks my language. Seriously. It's like everything he ever writes is written directly to comfort me. I almost have his "Happily Ever After" talk memorized because I listen to/read it so much.
    • He RESPECTS women. And I am not saying other guys (mainly other General Authorities don't because I absolutely know that's not true!) don't but he just is so cute about his wife Harriet. Seriously I want my future relationship to be like that. Someone who respects me is at THE top of my "Future Qualities I Want in a Husband" list (Or should I say lists because you always make so many of them in Young Womens)/
    • He flies planes. I just think that is so cool because I've always wanted to know how to fly a plane. Also, I really appreciate his flying metaphors.
    • He is extremely attractive for an older man.
    • He has an accent.
    • He has insecurities and he mentions them in conference, thus making me feel okay.
    • He has beautiful writing. All of his talks are so eloquent which is super cool because English is his second language.
    • He was persistent in trying to marry Harriet. I know this seems weird but I love that he loved her enough from the beginning that he didn't quit trying to date her. (Seeing as I am ALWAYS a quitter, especially when it comes to people not liking me, I love this about him).
    • He seems like such a regular guy. Like you could approach him anywhere and he would be the nicest, sincerest man ever.
    • He wrote me back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am sure I could come up with more reasons, but that's it for now! Anyways, maybe this just added to why people think I am too obsessive about him, but I just wanted to clarify! Onto some pics:

Provo Canyon BBQ this past Sunday!

Let's just say it was good for Bryce and Chase!

Watching Bourne with Jessica and Angel. They're awesome!

Everyday we're boulderin'

We watched the men's soccer game then watched the fireworks on the field!

Berg, Angel, Jo, me, and Bahaar bouldering! Kristina couldn't make it! :(

Angel, me and Jo!

Nearly half our ward at Red Robin!

Chase (look at that face!) and Berg!

Roomies! (including our adopted roommate Jessica!)

Actual proof that I went bouldering!

President Uchtdorf and Harriet! Seriously adorable!
Anyways, the past few days has been glorious. To end, I would just like to share one other quote from Maxwell's talk:
"This is necessary, not only so that our own passage through the trial can be a growth experience, but also because (more than we know) there are always people watching to see if we can cope, who therefore may resolve to venture forth and to cope themselves. Every time we navigate safely on the strait and narrow way, there are other ships that are lost which can find their way because of our steady light."
I absolutely love the fact that if we are continuing to be good examples that we can help others. It's kind of a random tangent, but I believe being the best "you" you can be will get you further than anything else.

So yeah. Life's great (minus the fact that my roomie Berg is in Arizona)

"Life is just like an old time rail journey...delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders, and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vista and thrilling bursts of speed. The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride."- Gordon B Hinckley

First of all, I really miss Gordon B. Hinckley. I know I have said this numerous times, but seriously he was just the greatest. I really love this quote because it reminds us that there are always good times in our future.  I am in the 'beautiful vista' part of the ride at the current moment. LIFE IS SO GOOD! So let's get to the good bit. Here's a recap of how good my life is:

  • My roommates are INCREDIBLE. Seriously. They are so positive, loving, righteous, crazy and fun all at the same time. (And they put up with me). I have never really been in a situation where I could honestly say that I LOVED all of my roommates so quickly. This past week alone we have done so many great things (but more on that later). Anyways, I am lucky to call these girls 'my family' or as Jordan (one of my roommates) would say, "My gypsies." So blessed.
  • Roommate sleepover- This past Sunday was Fast Sunday so we decided we would do an epic girl sleepover. Kristina made us these delicious chicken enchiladas and I made this new delicious recipe called Sopapilla Cheesecake and both were divine. We then painted our nails patriotic colors. Only problem was our white "Crackle" nail polish wouldn't open. Seeing as how this was a girl sleepover, we proceeded to knock on the first guy's apartment we came to so they could open it. Good news is that we have strong men in our ward because they opened it for us. Ray, one of the guys in our ward who opened the bottle for us, accused us of walking around and testing out the strength of all the guys in our ward. Which we totally weren't. But then proceeded to because it was such a great idea. Until we ran into Ray home teaching on the next floor. Anyways, even though it was supposed to be just girls, we ended up going to a game night, eating ice cream cake at our guy friend's apartment and even meeting a random guy named Patrick. It was soo much fun and my crack laugh made a huge debut! And I totally stayed up late. We then moved all of our matresses into the living room and watched Mary Poppins until 2 in the morning. It was delightful because my roommates are the best.
  • I also had opportunity to hang out with my old roommate Makayla and Madison while Madison was in town being an EFY counselor! It was soooo great! This might be way too weird, but that was the longest time Madison and I have been apart (insert the jokes here). But seriously! It was so nice being around a person who knows you so well that she know exactly what I am thinking all the time. We went to see Brave, walked all the way to Zupas (which is quite a feat let me tell you) and even started watching a Chick Flick. (And at this point, I should probably point out that Madison was exhausted and therefore I could trick her into watching a Chick Flick). Anyways it was super awesome and I already miss her tons!
  • I, Kelsey Marie Davis, made it to Level 3 of the Butt Bible. You may be asking yourself why is this so important? Well, let me answer that. First of all, it has been one of my personal goals to have the best butt out there. (I know you're thinking TMI, but I don't really care because it really is one of my goals). Also the Butt Bible is FREAKING HARD! So it felt good to finally reach the hardest level.
  • Now onto the really crazy part of my life- I went bouldering!!!!! For those who do not know what the means, it's basically like rock climbing but you go horizionally across the rock instead of vertically. Now for those of you who know me, you know I am freaking a baby when it comes to things like this. But you need not fear because I am alive to tell the tale and I am here to tell you I would do it again in a heartbeat. (And yes, hell just froze over). It was a great experience and I am so glad I went!
  • I went on the vacation my family had been planning (and by family, I mostly mean my Omi (grandma)) for five years. We went to Disneyworld and on a Disney cruise to the Bahamas. IT WAS THE BEST! I really liked D-World a lot minus the Tower of Terror. Here's the thing, I HATE the idea of being stuck in an elevator. It was one of my biggest fears. So I go on the ride because I am 19 years old for crying out loud. We all get on the ride including my grandparents and the second the ride starts, I cry. Not like sobbing cry per se, but I definitely had tears coming down my face. It was super embarrassing because that was when the picture was taken. The picture made it look like I had seen death because I was so scared. I highly doubt that the embarrassment will ever die especially because my little 6 year old cousin went on it and was fine. However, Hollywood Studios was redeemed in my eye because it was Star Wars weekend. As a very Star Wars nerdy family, this was very exciting. My goal for the day (besides trying to convince my family that I was not a baby for crying on the Tower of Terror), was to get a picture with Chewbacca. Sadly it never happened, but we did get a good shot of just him. So that's cool.  I also had the opportunity to go on my favorite ride- Space Mountain- 3 times which made me very happy. My favorite day was probably Epcot because not only did I get a picture with Mary Poppins (!!!!!), I also got to go to "Italy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" One of my primary life goals is going to Italy and this was like the mini version of it. I ate both a canoli and gelatto and it was marvelous. The world showcase was awesome but it also made me really want to drop out of school and travel. In "Mexico," I had the opportunity to meet up with Marisa and we got to hang out the whole day! It was probably one of the best days of D-World. We also went to a legit Luau and let me tell you, I wish I lived there so I could watch all of the men fire dancers. They were beautiful. Oh yes, the food was good. But the entertainment was better ;)
  • Cruise- After five grueling, hot, humid days in Disneyworld, we boarded our cruise. Can I just say that Disney's cruise line was exceptional. IT WAS SOO COOL!!!!!! We went to the launch party and I just had the song "I'm on a Boat" stuck in my head the whole time. We went to the Bahamas the first day were we went snorkeling (quite an adventure learning how to do that and wearing contacts). The water there is BEAUTIFUL. I know you see pictures of the Bahamas and you think the water is photoshopped, but it is not. We also went into some of the shops and bartered, which was totally scary for me because I HATE talking to people I don't know. We went to all of the cruise shows, which were great and we even had the opportunity to watch Avengers twice while on the ship. We then went to Castaway Cay, which is Disney's private island. Can anyone say paradise? My mom went to the adult beach called Serenity Bay (And no this island was NOT a nude beach although it sounds like that when you read what I just wrote.) I spent the whole day in the beautifully gorgeous water and then we all met for a huge BBQ outside. It then started raining but we stuck it out. Until I got a migraine! ON OUR LAST DAY OF THE CRUISE! I was really upset and cried like a baby but luckily my dad had all of his medicine so I just slept it off. However, our room viewed the ocean so I just sat and watched the ocean go by. So beautiful. Needless to say, the cruise was incredible minus my migraine!
  • Michal's newspaper store on the effects of Obamacare made it to the FRONT PAGE of the newspaper. I was pretty pumped for her because she originally hated journalism and she totally rocks at it!
  • So I have turned into a domestic goddess over the last month. And by "domestic goddess," I mean I made my favorite recipe. From scratch. By myself. It's called Ranch Chicken and I literally had a dream about it because I was craving it so bad. I finally accepted the fact that I wouldn't be having it because my mom was in Colorado. But then she brought up the fact that I could make it. Cooking+me+no bueno. But when you are having dreams about a certain type of food, it is highly advisable to make it! So I did! AND IT WAS SO DELIGHTFUL! Seriously, I think I could just marry it and be more happy with it than any man I've met.
  • I LOVE the Fourth of July!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So yesterday, I went to the parade with Michal and her family and then over to her grandparent's house for a breakfast feast. Can I just say I love parades? The energy. The really weird floats that are super random i.e. the huge blow up balloon of the Jetsons characters. But it was super fun and I am so glad I went! My roomies and I were supposed to go to Chipotle because I haven't had it in almost two months but at the last second we realized it was closed. Needless to say I turned on Katy Perry's "Part of Me" on full volume and sang it to the imaginary Chipotle in my living room. It ended up totally fine though because we went to a sandwhich place called Which Wich? and it was super good. All of us went to watch the soccer game because two of the guys in our ward  are on the team. (Yeah I know what you're thinking. Kelsey went bouldering AND go a men's soccer game. Yep. I am massively expanding what I do.) Anyways, it went much better than last year because this year I didn't have to get busted by the police for trespassing... Danny is such a bad influence! (That's all I am going to say about that)
  • For our ward activity on Friday, we went to Lowe's Extreme Sports which for my Colorado friends is kind of similar to Jump on It. Needless to say, this is NOT my type of place because there was rock walls and trapezes into foam pits. But for some reason I just decided to get really into. So I hung onto a trapeze and jumped in the foam pit, played basketball on a trampoline with Berg, Bahaar and Race, and even attempted rock climbing. It ended up being super fun but we definitely made Race tired (See below picture). Also as a random side note, Race and I have everything in common, including our last name, which makes him one of the coolest people I've met. (Please don't take that last sentence as conceited because I am just saying we're pretty cool haha).
  • So I am continuing to love my job. The other day the phone rings (which is obviously not unusual) and I hear, "hello this is _____ (I already forgot her name), President Monson's secretary." Let me tell you, I about dropped the phone. But it was pretty cool. The whole time I was thinking, "Hey, I would be such a great secretary for President Uchtdorf."
  • I just read Mindy Kaling's "Is Everybody Hanging Out Without Me and Other Concerns" and it was the funniest book I have ever read. It also reads like what my autobiography would sound like if I was Indian. You NEED to read it! Hilarious.
Now onto some pictures...

A picture of Castaway Cay. SO BEAUTIFUL!
Me, Bergen, Angel, Jordan and Bahaar at our roommate dinner at Chilis!
Madison and I when she was here!

Favorite quote from the past month:
Angel: Do you have a Dell computer?
Me: No
Angel: Okay thanks I'll go ask Bergen.
Me: *singing "Do You Know (The Ping Pong Song)" at the top of my lungs
Angel: Is that a Dell?
Berg: No that's Enrique Iglesias.
Angel: No I meant your computer.

Favorite new pick up line: "Are you African?... Because African love you!

Anyways, although I was VERY wary of staying out here in the summer, I am so blessed to be here! Life continues to be great and I am so thankful that I followed what Heavenly Father wanted me to do rather than what I wanted to do! Tonight should be fantastic because I am finally going to learn how to make Michael's (my old home teacher) banana bread. Wish me luck!
Love,
Kels
